Congressman John Lewis Arrives to Montgomery, AL

In Montgomery, Alabama, the home of the civil rights movement, crowds are gathering near and far to pay respect and honor to Troy native and civil-rights leader, Congressman John Lewis.

Congressman Lewis arrived by procession on Dexter Avenue this Sunday afternoon by a full military honor guard.

He will lie in state at the Montgomery, Alabama Capitol until 7:00 p.m. today and then he will be honored at Bicentennial Park with a vigil, just across from the Capitol. The daughter of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Dr. Bernice A. King, will speak at the vigil, along with other notable civil rights leaders.

According to WSFA News, he will be one of the only people to lie in state that did not serve as governor of Alabama.
