Montgomery City Council Candidate Marché Johnson Advocates For A Thriving And Prosperous District 3

It is time for millennials to make a stance…

- Marché Johnson

U.S. Army Veteran, mom of two young kings and life-long resident, Marché Johnson is boldly committed to creating a thriving change in her hometown of North Montgomery, Alabama.

Inspired by the rich civil rights history of Montgomery, the wavering spirit of Shirley Chisolm, the maverick in Tamika Mallory, and the vigilant spirit of Stacey Abrams, there is no doubt that Marché is next to reciprocate forward progression. She is passionate about implementing growth in the city and even in the Deep South.

In an interview with Kin + Dignity Magazine, she admitted, change could be ‘scary’ for Montgomery, but millennials can assist in building a better infrastructure and creating a bustling economy. “There are still a lot of younger families in the city,” she added. But even the younger generation can’t ignore the problems taking place right in front of them. “There are roads that haven’t been paved, street lights needing to be fixed and created, and there are people who have suffered from the on-going water crisis and food deficit in District 3,” Marché proclaimed.

As we can see, Flint, Michigan and Jackson, Mississippi are not the only overlooked cities facing a public health crisis. The District 3 candidate mentioned there are residents who have suffered from skin ailments linked to the partially treated sewage. “It has been an on-going process,” Marché said.

After being deployed to Korea, while serving in the military, Marché decided to return home in 2017 to care for her late grandmother, who was the matriarch in her family. Shortly thereafter, she began to embark on the spirit of change. In 2019, Marché joined the political ranks and ran for Montgomery City Council District 3 where she was just 6 votes shy of winning the council seat.

But she never let the loss dim her light. She remained highly involved and engaged in her community by collaborating with small businesses, the youth, and community organizations to forge the path to a brighter future for women, her neighborhood, and the entire City of Montgomery.

Two years later, in 2021, Marché re-announced her candidacy to represent District 3 and make the poorly-represented area not only feel seen, but be seen and heard. Marché’s campaign is proudly and purposely infused with her coined message, gaining the attention of voters throughout the city, “When District 3 wins, Montgomery wins. Do it for the district.”

Although this is not her first run for the seat, Marché is not one to count out of a fight to bring about new leadership. With the power to bring people together, and a heart of compassion, she is continuing to receive an uptick in supporters! Could change be near? “I see downtown growing and expanding in the arts and entertainment district,” Marché stated.

Statistically, the capital city of Alabama is a hidden gem for retirement. Marché declared, “It would be nice to see development that caters to the people and attracts tourism.” District 3 is considered an ‘opportunity zone’, a canvas for bringing inspiration to generations after generations. Imagine a clean, vibrant, crime-reduced district with a leader who promotes transparency. There are no grey spaces when it comes to Marché in Montgomery. She is woven into the fabric of the people and is on the move!
